Negotiations

I've been thinking about negotiations recently.

Goals:

• win/win
• win/loose
• loose/loose more

The goals I listed are what I think should be priority. Even if there is a potential to create the win/loose in your favor I think it better to have a win/win. The business world is all about networking and having more friends in it certainly can't hurt. I'm pretty sure that there are entire books on this like Love Is The Killer App.

Getting into the outcomes that contain losses or no fun, but I try not to think about it in terms of being cut throat. More so, I try and maintain a certain level of self respect. I frequently try to figure out what is the minimum outcome I'm willing to accept. That can also lead to ultimatums, which hurt negotiations, so start with suggesting above your minimum outcome or present a variety of options.
